Frequently Asked Questions
Choosing an Eco Wood Ring

The beauty of choosing a handmade wood ring is that by the very nature of wood, every piece is unique.

Each piece of wood has its own history and unique beauty and thanks to our specialist craftsmen, we celebrate the beauty of this natural and sustainable resource.

All our rings are as environmentally friendly as possible, using only ethically sourced or salvaged wood. If you choose one of our metal and wood rings, we use only recycled or Fairtrade precious metals. Whether you’re looking for an affordable engagement ring, an eco-friendly wedding ring, or to mark an anniversary or other special occasion, our unique designs really do capture the spirit and warmth of the wood.

How are your rings made?
Our rings are made using the bent wood method, where very thin veneers of wood are built up into layers. This means that the ring shows off the full beauty of the grain, whilst incorporating its innate strength into the ring itself.
What type of wood do you use?

We use a variety of ethically-sourced and FSC-approved wood. We can source woods from throughout the UK and overseas, but we also use salvaged wood as well.

If you want to create your own unique design, using wood that holds special significance for you and your partner, we can do that too. We would need you to supply a 2x2x12” piece of wood with no cracks and a strong grain. Please contact us to discuss this further.

What type of metal do you use?

Our metal rings with wood inlay are available in: Yellow, white & rose gold, Platinum, Palladium, Silver or Titanium

If you would like some advice on which metal is most suitable for you please do get in touch.

What inlay bands can I use in your wooden rings?

The inlays in our wood rings are added by creating a groove in the wood and then adding the inlay material.

We can use most things to create these special touches. Popular inlays include turquoise and precious metals like copper and silver but we’ve also used pebbles, sea glass and guitar strings! Let us know what you’re thinking and we’ll tell you if it’s possible.

If you’re thinking about one of our metal rings with wood inlays, then we can use any wood you like, including that which you’ve sourced yourself. We would need you to supply a 2” cube of wood with no cracks and a strong grain.

What styles of rings do you offer?
We make rings suitable for all occasions, both for men and women. From engagement rings with diamonds through to solid wood ring sets, please do take a peek at some of our previous creations, and contact us to discuss your ideas.
What happens if my ring gets damaged?
It’s highly likely that we’ll be able to repair your ring for you. Please get in touch with us, explaining what’s happened and including photos where possible. In the event that we couldn’t repair your ring, then we will remake it for you at a discounted price. For wood rings, it might be possible to include parts of your original ring in the new design.
How long my ring will last?

Our metal and wood rings will last a lifetime.

For our wood rings we can’t give you an exact length of time but with proper care they will last for many years. Even if they were to get accidentally broken, we could always incorporate parts of the original ring into a new wood ring.

How durable are your rings?

The method we use to make our wood rings means that not only does it show off the grain much better, it also gives the ring durability and extra strength. This means you won’t get splinters and the ring is very unlikely to break.

All our wood rings are covered with a waterproof finish, and while they aren’t as robust as metal rings, they are more durable than many people would think. We’d advise you to remove your ring if doing something which is really likely to damage it, but otherwise for day-to-day living, just leave your ring on and return it to us every now and then for some TLC (contact us for info).

Our metal and wood rings are extremely durable and age very well.

How do I look after my ring?

If you’ve ordered one of our wood rings it is important that the finish on it is maintained in order to keep the integrity of the ring. If the finish does get damaged this could allow water into the wood which will damage the ring from the inside.

We recommend you buy a pot of ring balm when you purchase the ring and that you treat it every month or so. We also offer a refinishing service so you can send it back to us for some tender loving care.

If you have one of our wood and metal rings the natural oils in your skin should stop the wood inlay from drying out or cracking. However we also recommend using a little teak oil if it starts to look dry.

Can I customise my wooden ring?

We would love to help you create a ring that is truly special to you. So if you have a piece of wood or some inlay materials that hold special significance for you, then we are happy to discuss how we can incorporate them into a design that is unique to you.

You can also customise your ring simply by adding a woodburning inscription to it, having it engraved either inside or outside the ring.

Please be aware that the delivery time is from the point at which we receive your final order confirmation and payment.

To discuss customising your ring please contact us on hello@ecowoodrings.co.uk or call 01373 823832.

How do I choose the right ring size?

We use standard UK ring sizes. Most jewellery shops will be happy to take your size free of charge. Please make sure though that you ask them to give you the leading edge size.

Please remember though that the weather can make our fingers swell or contract so try and make sure you get your fingers measured when the weather is relatively mild.

It’s also important that you take into account the width of the ring you want as it can affect the size you need to get it over your knuckle!

How long will my ring take to arrive?

Your ring will be ready 4-6 weeks after we have received your order confirmation and payment. If you need your order sooner than that, we might be able to make your order under our priority production service (subject to workload). Please contact us to discuss this further.

All our rings are sent by Royal Mail Special Delivery free of charge within the UK. For overseas orders we use FedEx and charge £35 within the EU and £45 outside the EU.

How will my ring be packaged?

All our rings are delivered in unmarked protective packaging just in case it’s a secret from a loved one. There will be no indication of who it’s from or what’s inside.

We also have wooden gift boxes available. Please contact us for further details.

Can I get my ring engraved?
We offer woodburning inscriptions on either the inside or outside of the ring. Please let us know at the time of ordering what your requirements are.
Can I see a sample of my ring before buying it?
All our rings are made to order so we don’t have samples that we can send you. We hope that the pictures and descriptions we have on our website accurately describe our beautiful rings. The overwhelming feedback is that they’re even more impressive in real life than in the photos. However, if you’re unsure, please do get in touch with us. We do have a small range of sample rings at our office (on the Somerset/Wiltshire border). Please let us know if you’d like to arrange a visit in order to see those and discuss your design ideas further.
What if I don’t like my ring?

We hope that you will be delighted with your ring. As all of our rings are made to order, we are unable to accept returns. Please therefore ensure that you choose your ring carefully, especially the size. If necessary all of our rings can be increased or decreased by up to one whole size - there is a charge of £60 for this service. If the size difference in size required is greater than one whole size, then we offer to take back the original ring and to remake it for you at a heavily discounted price.

Defective goods may be returned for exchange, provided that they are returned to us within 15 working days of receipt, unworn and in their original packaging.

No returns are accepted without our prior authorisation by email.
